REFLECTION OF THE STAIR DEVELOPMENT

Changes made to the stair for Bernabeifreeman's gallery included:

1. Material
Previously, the stairs and handrail were made using one material - Formica Laminate. I thought that this was too simple and not very unique. I made changes to this by constructing the stairs using alternating materials; stone and timber panels. This made the stair look more interesting and allowed it to fit in with the surrounding walkway which corresponds with the same material scheme.

2. Hand rail
I changed the handrail from using Formica Laminate to incorporating a beige stone material and timber paneling. This matches with the individual stair theme and surrounding walkway material and colour scheme. I slightly modified the handrail and supporting pillars to complement the overall staircase and geometry.

3. Shape
I altered the shape of the stairs due to functionality and ergonomic aspects. Previously, the stair was pointy at the centre which could interfere with the ease of use for the user. I made the triangular stairs closer together, removing the rectangular platform in between.

I also modified the width of the entire staircase to flow and fit in with the walkway platform, making both features a similar width to allow for a continuous flow between spaces.

Changes made to the stair for Off-White's gallery included:

1. Scale
I made alterations to the height of each stair to reduce the gap and distance. This will allow clients and employees to use the staircase easier.
