Final Plan and Arrangement of Spaces:

Plan of spaces with minimal furniture

Labeled diagram of spaces with functionality

Justification of Spaces, interiors, location and materials - In Alignment with my theory, adaptability and eco minimalism

I have decided to arrange the building so that it has two bridges, two studio rooms, a recording lecture booth, two office spaces, 2 bathrooms (2x male +  2x female), and a common room, terrace area and computer spaces.

Bridge 1
Bridge 1 also known as the student gallery, connects the roundhouse to the elevator. Student can use the elevator to get to the common room, studio spaces, bathrooms and lecture recording booth (lecturer access only). This is an important connection as the roundhouse has large meeting spaces which staff members and students may need to use. The roundhouse will provide students with extra bathrooms if needed. Additionally, the roundhouse has cafes and a pub area for students to socialise and meet up at. This bridge is a walkway that will be frequently used by all students and will allow them to review and gain inspiration from other student projects.

This bridge is mostly fabricated from glass to allow natural elements to shine through, as well as providing a view of surrounding structures. There is a moving roof which is made using timber panels for sustainable and practical purposes. This rotating roof can be closed during harsh weather conditions, protecting individuals and the gallery work below.

Bridge 2
Bridge 2 connects the square house to a stairwell which leads up to the academic and admin offices. This is a crucial pathway that can take staff members easily and quickly from meeting rooms, bathrooms or the 'MarketSpace' workshop back to their offices. The offices are side by side and opposite both male and female bathrooms.

Both bridge 1 and 2 are similar in materiality with most of the bridge made out of glass. This allows a view of the surrounding traffic and atmosphere. The custom texture 'scalar' is used to cover the timber panels which provides an aesthetic dimension, also aligning with the structures theme.

Computer Booths and Common Areas
As not all students may have access to computers, it is essential that the school of Architecture provides computer spaces and monitors, with printers/scanners. This space extends out to the terrace which has plants and bench spaces, where the natural air, sunlight and surroundings can inspire individuals with new ideas and encouragement to work.

Additionally, there is a common room area which can be accessed via the ground level. This area is fitted with adaptable furniture items including, garden walls on wheels, white boards on wheels, group high tables, individual desks and group booth rooms. Having flexible furniture can easily accomodate for individuals who want to work in groups or individually. Eg: The garden wall can be moved to provide a sectioned group area that blocks out other people from seeing in and distracting them. There is also storage space in the common area for items to be placed, such as projects or materials. There are additional laptops where students can use for their work in the common room. The booth located in the ground level common area is designed using the custom texture 'oscillation' and adds a nice design feature and yellow theme to the space.

For convenience purposes, the common area can be accessed from the ground level. The computer booth area and the outdoor terrace can easily be accessed either from the elevator or the bridge/gallery connecting to the roundhouse.

There is a large tree that existed before this building was constructed, therefore I decided to maintain its beauty and create the computer booth and common area space around it. Glass materiality is used for the computer booths area to allow individuals to observe the surrounding environment. The lower common area has glass windows on two of the sides to allow for natural sunlight access. Two walls are mostly constructed from timber as for ventilation and environmental purposes. The group study rooms are constructed out of timber to ensure computers and projectors can be easily used and seen, eliminating possible glares and sunlight distraction. The custom texture 'scalar' is used to provide an aesthetic feel on the outer walls.

Lecture Recording Booth
This booth is a small sound proof room that is fitted with a microphone, desk, computer and monitor. As technology is being used more and more these days, subject lectures are made for flexible and convenient for students to engage in. Students are able to watch lectures online on the schools website, therefore no further need for a lecture hall.

The lecture recording studio is part of the studios/bathroom component. This is appropriately positioned so that the lecturer can keep up to date with the students in the studio, and if they have any questions they can easily communicate. Additionally, the booth is constructed using the same timber paneling that the majority of the school is fabricated from.

The Lecture Booth has no windows which appropriately aligns with the functionality of the space.  The lecturer will need to focus on recording and wouldn't want to be distracted by what was happening outside or the sunlight. Furthermore, as the lectures will be recorded on the computer, sunshine wouldn't be suitable.

Academic and Admin Staff Offices
There will be two offices next to one another with a bathroom on the opposite side. The offices will be separated into academic staff (4-6 members) and admin staff (4-6 members). This space will have folding doors separating the two offices, which allows fluid and easy communication aspects. The space can also be used for a  group meeting if need be, by folding the doors back. The furniture fittings are flexible and adaptable, all being on wheels. Eg: Files, tables and chairs (there will be no desktops). All staff members will be using laptops so that the office can be reorganised and incorporate a flexibility feature.

The office block is constructed using timber panels as they are environmentally sustainable, allow for good ventilation, functional and practical for deconstruction and adaptability. There are large glass windows which allow staff to observe the surrounding buildings and environment. Natural light is essential as well. The custom texture 'rotational' is used for the cushioning pattern of the office chairs.

These offices are placed beside the bathrooms which adds a convenience aspect. The offices can be accessed through the stairwell which connects to the bridge ending at the square house.

Two Studio Rooms
The two studio rooms can be accessed via the elevators and incorporate aspects of adaptability within. There are folding divider doors placed to create two seperate studio rooms. This allows the flexibility aspect of two studio rooms or one larger studio space. These doors also block out noise. The studio rooms have a short corridor that leads to female and male bathrooms. The studios are furnished with adaptable, flexible and moveable items. This includes chairs on wheels, lightweight tables (some also on wheels for easy movement) and moveable sun panels. These furniture items will allow the studio groups to be reorganised according to the likes of tutors and students (even allowing reorganisation to form one big studio space).

The two studio rooms are constructed using timber panels as they are an environmentally friendly material, aesthetic and practical for deconstruction and movability purposes. There are also large glass windows which are essential for the studio space. Natural light is important for the students when sketching, designing and constructing models. At some times in the day this light can provide a glare on the white board or projector. Therefore, the moving element (wooden panels) are important as they can reduce this. It is also important for students to be able to look out the window at the surrounding environment and nature as this can spark thinking processes.

These studio rooms are placed above the common areas for convenient access via the elevator. They are positioned along side the bathrooms for convenience purposes too. The studio rooms are next to but above the frequently used gallery bridge from the roundhouse, allowing further easy access.

Bathrooms
The bathrooms beside the studio rooms and offices are constructed out of timber to align with the structures theme. This space includes minimal and highly placed glass windows as well as a skylight. This allows natural sunlight into the building, while still being appropriately enclosed and a private space.

Lift
This is mainly constructed from glass to allow individuals to view the surrounding buildings and view when they are using it. The elevator allows for vertical circulation, travelling up and down from the studio spaces to the common areas and gallery bridge.
